Scammed By a Local Business: Red Flags and What To Do

RED FLAGS You Are Being Scammed By a Local Professional:

Ghosting: Physically never being at office, no return phone calls, no emails back, no text back

Gatekeeper Extraordinaire: Always someone else answering the phone, at the office or respoding for them

Claims ignorance: Says they didn't get the correspondence, emails, text, phone or things you mailed them.

WHAT TO DO and How To File a Complaint With The Right Place:

Better Business Bureau
**to notify the public through the better business bureau

Dunn and Bradstreet
**to notify the business credit department of their wrong doings

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
**to notify of a financial related scam

Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
**to notify a bank scam

Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation (DPOR)
**to notify of a licensed professional in Virginia

State Corporation Commission (SCC)
**to notify the business tax department

Office of Attorney General For Virginia
**to notify if you aren't sure wherelse to go (804-786-2042)

Office of Attorney General (Northern Virginia)
Office of Attorney General (Southwest Region)
Office of Attorney General (Western Region)

Virginia Bar Association (VBA)
**to notify of a scam lawyer

Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA)
**to notify of a scam Certified Public Accountant

Also remember this:
The police never call you and asks for money over the phone
The IRS never calls you and asks for money over the phone
Never give out your 2FA code (two factor authentication code)
Never click links that are texted to you unless they are from people you know
Never give anyone money over the phone regardless of who they say they are. Hang up and call back.
